Waterfall and Caching Tuesday!

We'd kept the donkey going through the night and so Tuesday was bath morning! It was a chilly morning with us breathing steam until the sun came up, but Theo's Dad, his Mom, Brenda and Caleb all bathed in piping hot water! (Theo had a starlight bath the night before!)

Then we breakfasted and planned a day of waterfalls and caches. It was with some regret that we left Gunyatoo cottage as we had come to appreciate the setting and the simplicity of the place. We will definitely be back!

We took a scenic drive that took us to three caches around Sabie, one at a viewpoint over some of the remains of trees that were taken out in some of the terrible fires that have raged through the region in recent years. The second was very well-hidden in what was an old gold mine in Sabie. The third was a dam on the outskirts of Sabie where a helicopter that had been scooping water to put out fires in the area got into trouble and got pulled into the water instead. You can see photos of the dam and one of them pulling it from the water.


Then we picked up some picnic ingredients and headed for the Bridal Veil Waterfalls. We had a pleasant stroll to the waterfall and enjoyed a nice picnic lunch there. After photos had been taken we found the cache hidden there and then headed back to the cars. Theo's folks decided to head for Graskop, but we wanted to go and check out some of the other falls in the area.

Next on our list was the Horseshoe falls. There are multiple levels to this one and each level gets better than the one below. We had a great time exploring these falls and found a (rather damp) cache. By now Theo's wounds were starting to ache a bit (rock-hopping is not kind to the ankle,) so we headed back.

But just before we headed to Graskop, we decided to check out the Lone Creek Cave which is near the Lone Creek falls (which we didn't get to see this time.) This is an amazing cave system which is believed to contain a labyrinth of many kilometers of tunnels, rumoured to extend as far as Pilgrims Rest. We were looking for a cache and explored about 60m into the cave and did not find anything. Oh well....

Then we drove the very scenic road past MacMac falls to Graskop and our cottage, "Linga Longa." This is a luxurious (but affordably priced) 3 bedroomed, 1.5 bathroom home where we will spend 3 days.

After a quick supper, we watched a MacGuyver on Theo's laptop and headed for bed...
