Great VanDerKloof-Grahamstown Adventure Day1 Thursday 13 April Home to AlDam

After a very hectic time and some serious packing pressure, including running a cable from the car battery to the fridge, we were on our way!

We had to pick up a spare tyre for Theo's bicycle and a hinge spring for the roofbox which had taken a tumble. Thankfully this was easily done and we were on our way!

We explored Kroonstad which got awarded "Town of the year" two years ago. We had nice Steers lunch and milkshakes and headed off for "Aldam" which is the campsite at Allemanskraal Dam on the Sand River. The site was beautiful and quiet and we enjoyed our first setup - getting the hang of inflating the mattress and setting up the bed. We fried onions and bacon and smash for the first supper and enjoyed the quiet of the FreeState...

We were incredibly grateful to get away. This is the first time since Sep 2019 that we have been able to go away (barring a two day get-away in Sep 2021, a three night crisis dash to PE when Glen Craig was critically ill and Theo going to George and Swantje's wedding in March 2022). With Covid, and parents who needed care, we simply have not been able to go away. Now with parents doing well and Caleb ably taking care of kitties, we were finally able to take a gap!
