Ceres to the place of bitter honey

We slept in a little this morning and then watched the peacocks strutting around in the pine forest of our campsite this morning. This pine forest was different from Mountain Breeze - lots of pine-cones and birdlife and no squirrels - wonder if there is a correlation??

After QT and breakfast, we spent a slow morning doing washing and catching up on email and admin.

During our admin time, we also made another important decision: we have delayed our trip to Sutherland to Friday so that we do it on the way home. Otherwise we still have another 200kms inland from Ceres and then nearly 300 back to Cape Town. We had originally planned it this way because of the cold in Sutherland which would be more manageable in the camper than the tent, but we will probably hire a chalet.

In the Ceres caravan park we chatted to a lovely retired couple from Durban who are also touring South Africa for two months in a car and a tent. Hopefully Brenda and I will still have the same adventuring spirit in years to come!

Then we explored the Gydo pass and the Witzenburg valley enjoying the awesome views of the Ceres Valley which is really like a world of its own! There were a lot of autumn-winter leaves on the trees and its really quite beautiful.

After our explorations we went back through Ceres to an outlet shoppe and bought tomato-spinach-celery juice (which Caleb thinks is awful!), fruit juice, and some fruit. Then we followed the Michell pass and headed for the Goudini (which means bitter honey) Spa which is near Worcester.

It is a really really nice campsite and Theo braaied pork kebabs, butternuts, and onions while Brenda and Caleb went to the mineral springs for a swim. We'll swim some more tomorrow before heading back to Cape Town!
