Getting to Melkbos in CapeTown

We woke up in a rainy Lamberts Bay with the wind howling and the waves crashing. The waves were so high that the causeway to Bird Island was closed and we were not able to go across. Then we headed down toward Cape Town hugging the coast line as much as we could and this meant a lot of dirt-road travelling. (Boy was our poor car dirty!) We also paid our first and only toll in the whole of the Western Cape - for a dirt road, but boy was it worth it!

We stopped at the beach near Elandsbaai (which is a surfer's mecca) and saw the wreckage of the weekend's gale force winds and giant waves. Then we scrambled up the mountainside in search of caching treasure, but were defeated. The climb was worthwhile and the views spectacular.

We also stopped at Langebaan to see the Wind Generating plant and other side of Saldahna Baai. We used our Wildcard (bought at Augrabies) to give us a shortcut through the lagoon nature reserve and then went inland via Darling to Melkbos Strand where we tented at OuSkip and while Theo set up the camp, Brenda took Caleb for a swim...
