Yesterday we had the funeral of Theo's Ouma. She was a stately lady who boarded a municipal bus to go and vote two weeks before she died aged 91-and-a-half. There is a lot about her that we will remember and respect.
We spent the morning packing the car and trying to get all our bits together for nearly three weeks away where a good bit of it will be camping and everything needs to fit in the boot of our trusty Almera! On top of all the packing, we had to go and get some medical supplies because Theo had been to see our woundcare specialist who confirmed that the wounds weren't looking too good as they had developed slough (dead tissue) which needs to be dealt with. Our holiday days will have to have a wound-care slot built in to make some progress on this.
Eventually we hit the road just after lunch with Mrs Garmin directing us for Vryburg and then Kuruman. We travelled well although the roads were a bit dodgy, stopping at a Midas in Vryburg to pick up a leadlight and twelve-volt light which will help with the camping.
Brenda had been to the listener's library and so we listened to the first part of the "Wizard of Oz" which was lots of fun. None of us had ever read or heard the story and so it was great to get the background on the characters and references that one often hears. (Tin man, scarecrow, yellow-brick road, "We're not in Kansas anymore", and so many others.)
The weather soured up and when we arrived in Kuruman it was cold, dark and rainy and we opted to get a chalet in the caravan park rather than camping. This worked out well, because there was a fair bit of re-arranging of packing that needed to take place and it would have been awkward in the wet. It also meant that we could do a proper job of the wound-dressing. Tomorrow we're in Augrabies!
