Argus Adventure! Monday....

Theo is on long leave and George has some sabbatical. They've both had the Argus on their bucket list for a long time and although Brenda and Caleb can't come with (BOO HOO - sad faces...) George and Theo are heading down for Cape Town and camping and caching along the way.

So they left on Monday morning, Theo with a heavy heart at leaving B&C behind... Traffic was already busy early on, but they got through and made good progress to Ventersburg where they had coffee.

Theo has created a new caching identity ("Groenies") for when Caleb isn't with them and so he and George are catching some caches along the way...

The initial plan was to camp over at Bloemfontein, but they decided to go straight through to Gariep Dam. They  did, however, catch some cool caches...
  1. Sand River Convention
  2. Duck Toll
  3. Oom Louwtjies "All the fives"
  4. All the ones
  5. New Gariep Dam (Done after lunch at Gariep)
At all the fives
Parked at all the fives
All the Fives was a cache up in a tree that has a 5 terrain and 5 difficulty rating and was planted by Oom Louwtjie who is no spring chicken. It was a fun find! Then we went off to find "All the Ones" which is a tribute to Oom Louwtjie and was planted by the Intrepid "Phantoms" (aka GreenJam, Dakardrix and Elsies)

Near the cache location
Beautiful Blue Gariep Dam
Then we grabbed a quick lunch and did some shopping for the camping.
The drive to Gariep had lots of stop and goes and it was very very hot, but eventually we got to the Dam and went and found the cache and then we went to the campsite.

The campsite is beautiful and we got camp set up and had a quick swim. Then the wind started howling and we had a real struggle cooking supper and getting everything done before bedtime.

We hope to find a few caches and have a ride tomorrow before heading off to Beaufort West and camping in the Karoo National Park!

Getting ready to set up...

George hopes he remembers how...

It worked out ok...
