There had been a transformer burnout in VanDerKloof in the night and we were faced with an indefinite power outage. A drive was useful for keeping our fridge cold and recharging our phones. Thankfully the power was back by about 3pm. The shops were quite bare, but we were able to buy some nice lamb-chops which were braaied in the afternoon.
Then we drove up one of the hills overlooking VanDerKloof Dam and Theo headed of on a 30km ride, from VanDerKloof to Petrusville and back. It was a headwind going out and so it was a nice ride back....
The afternoon consisted of a lazy braai, a long post-ride and braai shower and then a long late afternoon walk with sunset photos on the Orange River. It was a fantastic slow-down and we could just enjoy the campsite with it's zany decoration and the happy sound of kids playing.
For supper we had the leftover rice and chicken from the night before and enjoyed an early night and a good night's rest.
Here's a little video Theo made riding his bike around the campsite... At the end you can see the VanDerKloof Dam in the distance...
Orange River from the Dam Wall. Sandgat is the green blob on the left of the river after the bridge...
Some views of the campsite...
