Great VanDerKloof-Grahamstown Adventure Day4 Sunday 16 April VanDerKloof to KarooNationalPark

 

We slept well and woke up well. We did a slow pack up and were on the road at about 9h00. We spent some time at the dam wall and the view points over the dam. Then it was a hard drive on badly potholed roads to Hanover, where we joined the N1 and had the long drive to Beaufort West and Karoo National Park. 

The karoo is beautiful to drive through and we listened to our online service and also phoned family. 

We stopped in at ThreeSisters PadStal and had yummy roosterkoek and coffee and bought deboned mutton ribs, some wors and lamb cutlets which we hope to share with George and Irene and Glen and Jeanette.

The Karoo has a subtle green tinge to it and the dam levels at Beaufort West were at 60% where 4-5 years ago people were dropping off bottles of water....

We arrived at Karoo National Park to an immaculate reserve with lovely amenities and a rustic but well-equipped campsite. We set up our tent and enjoyed conditions significantly warmer than VanDerKloof and AlDam. After we got setup we took a sundown drive up the magnificent Klipspringer pass and took some lovely photos while a troop of baboons barked in the distance.

Theo cooked supper in the evening and even made some instant pudding. We so enjoyed the quiet of the Karoo and when loadshedding kicked in we used the complete darkness to enjoy the magnificent starry sky which goes 3D compared to the 2D feel one gets in the city. The evening was warm and we slept well!
