Great VanDerKloof-Grahamstown Adventure Day6 Tuesday 18 April - SwartbergPass and Sedgefield

We woke up to a beautiful morning in Prince Albert, packed up the tent and popped in at the Olive Farm just next door. It was in such a beautiful setting and we were able to buy some delicious fresh olives.

Then it was off to the Swartberg pass. There are not really words for the beauty of this pass. It is dirt road so Theo couldn't cycle, but the drive was spectacular. You start with the mountains rearing up like walls on each side with incredible ripples and whorls in the rock formations and then you go up and up through an Alpe d'Huez like switchback and then up and up with the dirt road visible for kilometers behind you. At the top the vegetation goes from Karoo scrub to Cape Fynbos and there is a rapid ear-popping descent down to Caledon and the road to the Cango Caves.

From there we meandered through Oudshoorn and down to George stopping on the Outeniqua pass for picnic lunch. We took a chance and contacted Theo's Tuks Varsity friend Francois and we enjoyed a lovely visit and coffee with him.

Just outside George, Theo hopped on his bike to ride the beautiful coastal road to Sedgefield. The road is dramatic, dropping down to sea level to Wilderness and then over numerous lagoons to Sedgfield.

We spent the night with Brenda's uncle George and aunt Irene who hosted us graciously and we braaied a rack of lamb ribs and some boerewors. YUMMY.

We went to bed marveling at the variety of scenery we had seen in one day. Karoo scrub-land, majestic mountain passes, Cape Fynbos, Garden Route green, ocean and lagoon. What an awesome God we serve!
