Argus Adventure: Wednesday

We woke up early to a brisk Karoo sunrise with the BullBuls pecking at the crumbs on our table! We got going and packed up camp because we had a long way to drive.



We drove from Beaufort West down to DeRust and then through the Meiringspoort Pass which was incredible! We were absolutely blown away! We saw the mountains in the distance and knew we would have to wind our way through them, but it was absolutely incredible to see how the river had passed through there and how the people had built a roadway in its wake...

They have gone to a great deal of trouble to use the rest stops to highlight the beauty of the pass and so we stopped at a rest-stop and went to see a waterfall (which was only a trickle, but must have been much bigger at some point because it has carved a huge channel and two huge splash pools in the rocks. We also found two caches in the pass, one by a river and the other at a graffitti spot where CJ Langenhoven carved the name of his favourite elephant into the rock.

Then it was through Oudshoorn and then Caliztdorp where we went through our second dramatic pass for the day! This pass was lunar like in the karoo dryness. Then we reached Barrydale, which is one very cute dorpie!

Here we did our third cache at a little coffee show with a huge koi dam and then we went through our third and windiest pass of the day (Troudouw pass.)

Then we got onto the N2 and did a cache at a "padstal" and then it was off to Bredasdorp to do shopping. 


At L'Agulhas we found that things have changed a lot, tons of new homes have been built, even in front of the caravan park which used to view the sea. We went off to the Southernmost tip and found the southernmost cache (went by bike again for fun) and then came back to have supper and set up camp.
