Sunday morning was very special. Glen had mentioned that they would be going to Salem Church on Sunday and that he was playing the violin in the music group. We decided that we would attend.
A couple of years ago Glen was asked by one of the Methodist ministers to look after the Salem church. It is the oldest Methodist church in the country, planted by 1820 Settlers, but had dwindled. Glen, with love and pastoral concern cared for the congregation and they have grown into a vibrant community. So vibrant, that in Covid times they persuaded Glen to do online devotions and these have been watched by thousands of people all over the world.
Glen has always told Theo about the Salem community and about his violin playing and so it was amazing to go along and experience both. We had a lovely service and spent a very special time with them. (Little did we know that Glen would pass away two weeks later...)
We then hit a long road for home, driving down to Nanaga because the Bedford road is severely potholed (and for more roosterkoek!) Then past Cookhouse and Cradock, enjoying being able to take it slow and enjoy the scenery. The Eastern Cape is greener than it has been in a long time.
At Steynsburg we decided that Theo would do one last ride, and it was a super 20km out and 20km back with Brenda taking beautiful fotos of her mad cyclist and the stark landscape. We stayed at Croyden Cottage which is a very cute little B&B in a beautiful little forest. We had tuna and noodles for supper and slept well...
